ABSTRACT
The study aimed to assess Social work intervention programme, strategies in the rehabilitation of children in broken homes in Uselu community, Benin City. The purpose was fulfilled through four specific objectives: to identify the causes of broken homes, to find out how broken homes affect children, to ascertain the impact of broken homes on the academic performance of children and to evaluate the strategies in rehabilitating children in broken homes. The study followed survey design whereby quantitative technique was applied. The data were collected through questionnaires using a random sample of 120 respondents. It was found that, broken home is caused by divorce, death, separation and not married, Marriage without mutual concept, economic activities and problem of urbanization. The study recommends that, The government should create academic and counselling units in schools with adequate funds, while pupils from broken homes should be given proper guidance and counselling concerning their psychological needs and social problems towards their studies for appropriate discipline, Other researcher should conduct comparative analysis of broken homes students and normal students and their academic performance, and Proper monitoring, security and discipline should be given to the pupils by their guardians and single parents
