ABSTRACT
The study investigated social work intervention in the rehabilitation of libyan returnee in Benin city. The objective of this study was to examine the experiences of recent Nigerian deportees report after being returned/deported from Libya, to determine the issues affecting deportees’ daily lives, in particular, their access to livelihoods and social reintegration into society, to access the role of social workers in the rehabilitation and integration of returnee of young Nigerians, to evaluate the impact of the support provided by IOM and NAPTIP to Nigerian returnees/deportees from Libya. The sample size was 210 participants chosen from the study population using the yaro yamani formula, the research instrument utilized was the questionnaire. Conclusion drawn from the analysis of the data retrieved from the questionnaire indicates that Economic condition such as unfavorable government policies was also found to be the cause youth migration The study revealed that Social workers can also assist deportees by assisting them find accommodation. Recommendations were made based on the findings and they include: Technical support should be offered for returnees engaged in income generating activities. There should be strong follow up and assistance to effectively address returnees’ concerns and to monitor the progress of their businesses. Female returnees face many challenges while living abroad, during deportation and after return due to the low status ascribed to females in the African society . The programs should be inclusive of women with disabilities and women with children to effectively rehabilitate and reintegrate all segments of returnees.
