SUMMARY

In line with the objectives of this study, the conclusion of this study is as follows: This study concludes that the content of the academic curricula of the Universities selected for this study do not prepare students for developmental social work practice as they are largely dominated by a host of remedial social work courses with just a few inclusions of some developmental social work courses which most student claimed were either really not taught but only just listed in the curricula, or wrongly taught more within the context of remedial social work

This study also concludes that despite their seeming high level of awareness of the relevance of developmental social work in social work processes and practices in Nigeria, many of the social work educator respondents seemed not to understand what developmental social work really is all about as they could not explain convincingly why they think the developmental social work model is relevant in social work training and education in Nigeria.

Besides, this study also concludes that majority of the student participants across the three selected Universities are not aware of the focus of developmental social work as their responses demonstrated a very little or no awareness at all of the focus of developmental social work.

Furthermore, with regard to assessment of students’ actual preparedness for developmental social work practice in Nigeria judging by the type of social work education they receive in terms of theories and courses taught as well as field placement experiences, this study concludes that students are not really prepared for developmental social work practice in Nigeria as the theories, courses and field practicum listed by students as most helpful in preparing them for the type of social work practice they have been trained for are predominantly remedial.
