ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to find out and examine the existing causes of deviant behaviors amongst secondary school students in the Benin metropolis and consider the roles the social work profession can play in its prevention. A proper research was carried out on the roles parents, social media, peer group and the society plays in the causes of deviant behaviors amongst secondary school students in the Benin metropolis and how social workers can work with them to prevent the menace of deviance. In carrying out the research some research questions were formulated in order to direct the researcher in investigation of some of the deviant behavior common in some selected secondary schools students in Benin. There is also review of relevant literature on deviant behavior among secondary school and students and how to curb the situation. The main research instrument used for data collection was the questionnaires, which was administered to teachers, students and student social workers in the Benin metropolis. And also there is presentation of data, collection and its analysis. Finally, it was arrived at that to effectively prevent deviant behaviors in secondary schools, social workers should be permanently involved and made to team up with the teachers, family, government and students to find a lasting panacea.
