ABSTRACT

 The study investigated the Influence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on Senior secondary school students’ Academic performance. The research was carried out as a survey research using relevant literature from journals, books and the internet. Three research questions were raised and analyzed for the purpose of the study.

 Five government secondary school in Egor LGA Edo State were selected for the study Data on Students' familiarity and attitude towards ICTs and information on the possible relationship between students ' use of ICTs and study habits were collected through questionnaires.  A total of 100 participants were employed for the study. They were selected through simple random sampling technique (Yes/No). A 20-item questionnaire on the usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on students’ academic performance was employed. It was scored on Agree/Disagree format with a norm of 19.5. The questionnaires were distributed to them to fill in their classrooms. The second part of the questionnaire focused on students’ knowledge and experience of computers and internet services. The design adopted for this study is a cross-sectional one because of differences in the participants’ characteristics.

  The results of the data analysis revealed that students have a positive attitude towards ICTs. As such they use them to facilitate learning.  That ICTs can and will empower learners, transforming teaching and learning processes from being teacher dominated to students centered. It was recommended that ICTs facilities and training be made available to students. Students should be encouraged to use ICTs with a better allocation of time between the various uses. Discussions were made based on the findings and recommendations of the study.
