ABSTRACT
This study examined social media use as a determinant of knowledge sharing practices and services delivery by librarians In John Harris library university of Benin, to make this possible for research and purpose the study issued to find out the types of social media tools, find out the purpose of using social media as a determinant of knowledge sharing by librarians, and to find out the challenges to the use of social media use as a determinant of knowledge sharing practices services delivered by librarians.
Descriptive survey research design was adopted to accomplish the purpose of the study. The population of the study consists of 100 librarians and the sample size of 97 librarians was used for the study. The instrument of data collection was the questionnaire developed by the researcher and was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts from the Department of educational management. The reliability Co-efficient was 0.727 was obtained using Cronbach’s Alpha reliability Co-efficient. The data collection were analyzed statistically using frequency count, simple percentage, statistical mean and standard deviation.
The study discovered that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp and LinkedIn are types of Social Media use as a determinant of knowledge sharing practices and services delivered by librarians, to access information about events and to disseminate and share digital content. The study further recommend that librarians should be acquitted with social media, so as to be able to utilize it well to enable knowledge sharing by librarians.
