ABSTRACT.
The study examines Social Media role in the promotion of activism in Nigeria, a survey of students of Ekehuan campus of the university of Benin. This study explores social media roles in the promotion of activism in Nigeria. The objective was to examine the extent to which social media have been used to promote political debate and activism in Nigeria. The study was anchored on the development media theory. The survey research method was adopted.100 copies of the questionnaire was administered as a means of eliciting information (data) for fact. Finding shows that social media is capable of promoting activism in Nigeria. In conclusion, the audience should be made vigilant against happenings through social media plat forms their familiar with. The researcher therefore recommend that there should be improve in the present level of social media. This can be achieved by passing useful and relevant information that concerns the publics through social media platforms, getting and utilizing feedback from the people, as well as mobilizing the publics to engage in online campaign and discussion geared towards promoting activism in Nigeria.
