ABSTRACT

This study conducts a critical analysis of social hierarchy in Editi Effiong‘s The Black Book and Jadesola Osiberu’s Gangs of Lagos. This research will uncover the form and effects of social hierarchy as demonstrated in both movies. The methodological approach utilised in this study is the qualitative method because it helps unveils the feelings, perception and attitudes that both producers have towards the issues of social hierarchy as well as how to curb them. This research also reveals that politicians control state affairs for their personal interest, neglecting the poor masses. The study concludes that both movies are tools used to criticise the tumultuous state of Nigerian politics as well as clamour for change.
