Abstract

This study investigated the impact of single parenting and socio-economic status of parent on academic performance of secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and four null hypotheses were formulated and tested. The descriptive research design was adopted in the study. The population consisted of five thousand six hundred and sixty seven (5,667) SS1 students from the 14 public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample of the study consist 400 students of SS1 classes. Simple random sampling technique was used to select eight (8) schools from the eight schools selected. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, a structured questionnaire was administered to the selected SS1 students. Data collected were analysed and all the hypotheses were tested using regression statistics.
