Summary
This study investigated single parenting and peer influence as predictors self-concept among secondary school adolescents in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. Eight research questions were raised and their corresponding hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Related literatures were reviewed based on the theoretical framework and on major concepts of the study; concept of single parenting, peer influence and self-concept.
The correlational survey design was adopted and a sample size of six hundred (600) students were selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instrument for this study is a questionnaire titled "Single Parenting and Peer Influence as Predictors of Self-concept Questionnaire ". The instrument is divided into three sections. Section A sought the demographic information of the respondents, section B will comprise of items based on a four point Likert scale with 10 and 10 items each which are single parenting and peer influence scale carefully developed by the researcher and section C will comprise of 20 items on self-concept. The data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation statistics and Fishers Z-Test Statistics.
