In today's world, many parents in Nigeria like to share pictures and stories about their children on social media. This is called "sharenting." It's a way for parents to show off their kids and connect with friends and family online. But, there are some things about sharenting that parents need to think about. Let's talk about why parents like to share about their kids. For many, it's a way to keep memories and share joy with others. It feels good when friends and family like and comment on our posts about our kids. But, sometimes, we share too much without thinking about it. In Nigeria, privacy is important. We don't always think about how much we're sharing or if it's okay with our kids. They might not want their pictures or stories on the internet for everyone to see. And when they grow up, they might feel embarrassed or upset about what we shared. Sharing too much online can also make parents feel bad. We might compare ourselves to others and feel like we're not good enough. We want to show the happy moments, but life isn't always perfect. This can make us feel stressed or lonely. When we share too much online, it can change how we talk to our kids. Instead of spending quality time together, we might focus on getting the perfect picture for social media. This can make our relationships with our kids feel fake or shallow. To make things better, we need to be careful about what we share online. We should ask our kids if it's okay before posting their pictures or stories. We should also focus on building real connections with our kids, instead of worrying about what others think. In the end, sharenting can be a good thing, but we need to be mindful of how it affects our kids and ourselves. By being more aware of what we share and how it makes us feel, we can create happier and healthier families in Nigeria.
