ABSTRACT
This study investigated students' perception of their English language reading comprehension lessons in some selected secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Benin city. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were raised and one hypotheses was tested for the study.
The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey research design. The sample size for the study was made up of one hundred and fifty (150) respondents. The instrument used for the data collection was a structured questionnaire titled "Questionnaire on Senior Secondary School Students' Perception of their Reading Comprehension Lessons". The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test analysis.
The research findings reveal that students perceive their English reading comprehension lessons as often boring and distracting, with low levels of engagement and dissatisfaction regarding the effectiveness of feedback from their teachers in improving comprehension skills. . It was concluded that the research underscores the importance of implementing strategies to enhance student engagement and optimize feedback mechanisms to effectively improve English reading comprehension instruction. The study among others recommended to incorporate more interactive and varied activities into English reading comprehension lessons, while ensuring timely and constructive feedback to better support students' comprehension development.
