Abstract
This study was designed to show the focuses on the strategies employed in signposts as well as how Nigerian English users and road users deduce intended meaning from them. The aims and objectives of the study is to examine and evaluate the strategies employed in signposts and how the signposts are been used by the road users Signposts are designed to help, inform, instruct, warn, and direct road users on how and where to take while on the road This study shows the different ways the signposts are been portrayed using content and function words, showing the exact location and giving directions to the route of a particular location with the use of signs, shape and colour deduced meaning. The study proves that signposts are not just ornaments to decorate roads but are very useful in giving directions and also the different ways the signposts are been placed showing the immense significance to all consuming stakeholders who are the road users.. The study shows how the data on signpost were collected primarily through personal use of a phone after observing and documenting the street signs available. The research methodology explains the techniques used to achieve the purpose of the study. The review of relevant literature shows the conceptual review and previous studies..
