ABSTRACT

 

The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the relationship between self esteem, and its impact on students' academic performance. Four research questions were formulated and four research hypotheses guided the study. To achieve this, the descriptive survey research design was adopted. The study focused on university students in the University of Benin. The study used Simple random sampling methods to select a sample of 198 participants. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, and the data generated was analyzed using frequencies and simple percentages. Research findings show that there was a significant positive relationship between self-esteem and academic performance of university students in the University of Benin, Benin City.

To this end, the researcher recommended that, in line with improving self-esteem of students, the school, teachers or lecturers as well as parents of students have to also contribute their best in the life of students or children in order for them to fully grow positively in their academic work.
