ABSTRACT
One hundred (100) ditch cutting samples were collected from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from a depth of five thousand and sixty feet (5760ft) to eight thousand seven hundred and ninety feet (8790ft) from AG-2 Well located in the Niger Delta Basin of Nigeria and were processed for sedimentological analysis in other to give a detailed characteristics of the sedimentary succession penetrated by the drill. The ditch cutting samples were analyzed using reflected stereo microscope for lithologic description. A lithostratigraphical chart embracing lithofacies, Formations and Mineralogical composition for the well was generated. Three (3) lithofacies comprising Sandstone, Sandy Shale and Shale were established for the well. Four (4) minerals were identified in the analyzed section of the well and includes, Mica, Iron Oxide, Feldspar and Quartz. The petroleum play elements established in the studied well are reservoir rocks, source rocks, cap rock, seal and traps. The Formation penetrated by the drill in AG-2 Well located in the Niger Delta Basin of Nigeria includes the Agbada Formation.
