ABSTRACT
A comprehensive sedimentological analysis was conducted in the "X-Field" situated onshore in the Niger Delta, with the primary aim of evaluating petrophysical properties, characterizing reservoirs, and interpreting the depositional environments. This study involved the integration of well log data from four wells across the field to delineate lithological variations, establish reservoir continuity, and elucidate the broader stratigraphic
context of the region. Petrophysical analysis unveiled the presence of four distinct hydrocarbon-bearing sand units, identified as Sand B, Sand D, Sand E, and Sand I. The assessment of depositional environments hinged
on a meticulous examination of well log data. Lithofacies analysis led to the categorization of facies associations, encompassing shoreface, marine shale, and channel sand deposits. The gamma ray signatures exhibited distinctive shapes, characterized as funnel, bell, and cylindrical, which provided insights into the sedimentary dynamics, including progradation, retrogradation, and aggradation. These signatures facilitated
the identification of parasequences within the stratigraphy. Within the study area, the environments of deposition were delineated as fluvial channels and point bars, shedding light on the dynamic geological history of the region. Furthermore, a suite of essential reservoir parameters, including net thickness, water
saturation, permeability, porosity, and net-to-gross ratios, were derived through the integration of well log data. Notably, the delineated zones of interest displayed promising characteristics, with an a verage net sand thickness ranging from 120 to 413 feet, net-to-gross ratios spanning from 0.71 to 0.98, and average effective porosity levels within the range of 0.20 to 0.30. Additionally, permeability values ranged from 1996 to 2526,
and hydrocarbon saturation exhibited a favorable range from 0.71 to 0.96. These findings collectively underscore the sedimentological significance of the "X-Field" in the onshore Niger Delta, indicating the presence of reservoirs with strong potential for commercial hydrocarbon accumulation.
