SCREENWRITING AND ACTING IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The study is centered on investigating Screenwriting and Acting in Nigeria. The study further examines the relevance and the roles of screenwriting to acting and Nigerian film industry. Relevant literature were perused in order to elicit relevant information as related to Screenwriting and Acting. Furthermore, four objectives were considered in order to define the scope of this research study which are: Ascertaining the place and role of screenwriters in video film productions in Nigeria, Finding out how the Nigerian screenwriter can evolve an understanding of the concept of screenwriting that is akin to that of advanced cinema cultures, determining if there are factors outside the film industry that challenge the productivity and growth of screen writing and acting in Nigeria and strong examination of the roles of adequate training of actors and screenwriters and find out measures put in place to ameliorate the challenges faced by Nigerian Screenwriters and actors/actresses. Consequently, content analysis of two films(Citation and Thunderbolt) were duly carried out and proper recommendations were made that government should devote more attentions to Nigerian film industry as it gold not mined to Nigerian economy. It was also recommended that more schools and colleges of Screenwriting and Acting should be established so as to have a formidable movie industry by not leaving the industry for mediocre.
