SCHOOL FACILITIES AND STUDENT’S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated to investigate the impact of school facilities and its influence on student’s academic performance in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. in order to achieve the objectives of the study, five research questions were raised and three out the five research questions were hypothesized The population of the study consisted of the twenty-eight (28) public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State with a total of 5052 (five thousand and fifty two) students in senior secondary schools. Three (3) schools and 100 teachers were selected as sample for this study. The instrument used for data collection was checklist titled “Senior Scholl School Facilities Checklist” (SSSFC) and “Students Academic Performance Checklist (SAPC). The instrument was validated by the supervisor. Data collected for reseach question one and two were answered using percentage while 2 and Independent Samples T-test was used for teasting the hypothesis. The study revealed that: there are avalable buidings, chairs, desk, toilets, footbal pitch and office chairs while there are no laboratory, scickbay, computers, whiteboards and projector, there is poor academic performance in public senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State., there was significant relationship between between school facilities and students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo state, there is no significant difference between school facilities and students’ academic performance along the variable of school location in Egor Local Government Area of Edo state and there is no significant difference between school facilities and students’ academic performance along the variable of school size Based on the findings, it was recommended that government should endeavour to provide adequate school facilities for secondary schools adequately particularly toilets and sporting facilities whioch also aid learning and teaching in schools
