ABSTRACT

This study investigated the status and barriers to good school-community relationship secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Guided by three research questions, the sample was 200 respondents from selected areas in Oredo Local Government area of Edo State. The descriptive research design was used. Data, collected through a 30-item researcher developed questionnaire, was analysed using simple percentage. The findings revealed that the school-community relationships existing in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government still have a long way to go. Lack of resource, communication, gap between school authorities and parents/ward were some of the problems highlighted as barriers to good school-community relationship. It was recommended among other things that Principals and teachers should encourage good rapport between them and the community leaders. They should make more efforts to see community involvement in school affairs not as threat but as one way of enhancing its quality.
