ABSTRACT
The study investigated the relationship between school climate and lecturers’ job satisfaction in public universities in South East geopolitical zone, Nigeria. Eight research questions were raised to guide the study; two were answered directly while six hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study was a descriptive survey which adopted a correlational research design. The population of the study comprised 9791 lecturers in the ten public universities in the South East geopolitical zone, Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select the sample size of 979 lecturers which constituted 10% of the total population. Research instruments titled: “School Climate Questionnaire” (SCQ) and “Lecturers’ Job Satisfaction Questionnaire” (LJSQ) were used to elicit information from the respondents. The instruments were designed by the researcher and validated by the researcher’s supervisors and one other lecturers from the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, University of Benin. Reliability tests on the instruments SCQ and LJSQ were carried out and reliability coefficients of 0.88 and 0.79 were obtained for SCQ and LJSQ respectively, which showed that the instruments were reliable.
