ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to investigate safety precaution practice among health practitioners in public hospitals in Benin metropolis. The study identified the impediments to safety precautions among health practitioners in public hospitals in Benin metropolis and examined gender influence on the safety precautionary practice among health practitioners in Benin metropolis.
The researcher utilized the descriptive survey design. The population of the study consisted of health workers in government owned hospital in Benin City. The sample size of the study consisted by 456 health workers. They were selected using simple random sampling techniques of balloting by replacement to select 20% from each of the selected government owned hospitals in Benin City. The instrument was a questionnaire designed by the researcher.
The findings reviewed that majority of the respondents (68.7%) have high safety precautions, majority of the respondents (43.5%) have moderate knowledge of safety precautions, majority of the respondents (mean = 2.82) have positive attitude towards hospital safety precautions, the respondents agreed that they do not always double glove because it interferes with my duties, protective eyewear is uncomfortable. It was recommended that intervention programs to improve with standard precautions and occupational exposure reporting must focus on prevention, education and policy.
