ABSTRACT
The aim of this project is to carry out a comprehensive route survey and geometric design of the longitudinal profile from UBTH golf course to the University of Benin.geographically located on (Longitude, Latitude) 5°36’51" E and 6°23’41“N, and 5°37’34’’ E and 6°23’28’’ N. The project was to produce a longitudinal profile plan of the centre line and other details for preliminary analysis of existing ground profile for the purposes of planning and road design. focusing on four specific objectives which includes conducting a comprehensive reconnaissance survey of the project area, acquiring 3D geographical data which includes centre line, and edge of roadway at an 25 meter interval along the road corridor, detailing natural and man-made features along the route, and producing a profile plan showing the longitudinal section of the road. The project involved carrying out a comprehensive route survey of the project area using GPS RTK mode were a total of 325 points was collected along the road corridor. The data collected was then processed using Civil 3D software to generate a surface horizontal alignment, profiles, assembly, corridors, and cross sections. The processing of the data involved the detailed representation of the road's longitudinal profile, including its elevation information and alignment profiles. The project results showed a representation of the road's longitudinal profile, per 25m chainage interval including its elevation information and alignment profiles. The detailed information provided by the project can be used in road design and construction purposes. Based on the results of the project, the project, it is recommended that regular maintenance and updates of the data should be carried out to ensure the information remains relevant and up-to-date.
