ABSTRACT

The study investigated the roles of education in addressing income inequality citing the University of Benin, Benin City as a case study. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The research design adopted for this study was the descriptive survey research design. The sample size comprised of 150 students proportionately selected from the 15 faculties in the University of Benin, Benin City. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. An analysis of data was done using frequency count, mean and standard deviation.

The findings from the study include that there is high level of income inequality among undergraduates’ students in University of Benin, Benin City. It was concluded that education plays a significant roles in addressing income inequality among students in the University of Benin, Benin City.

The study recommended among others that the government should make higher education more accessible and affordable through scholarships, grants, and low-interest loans so as to address the barriers that prevent students from low-income backgrounds from pursuing and completing college degrees.
