ABSTRACT

This study investigated the role of the role of assistive technology in the education of students with special needs as perceived by teachers. The purpose of the study is to; The role of audio technology is education of students with learning disability, The role of visual technology in education of students with learning disability, the role of audio-visual technology in education of students with learning disabilities.

To achieve the aim four research questions were raised, the population of the study was 50 teachers in seven (7) special schools in Oredo Local government. The sample of the study was 50 teachers in Oredo Local government, Edo State.

The instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the department of Educational Evaluation and Counselling Psychology. Internal consistency of the instrument was established and the reliability co-efficient value of 0.889 was obtained.

Finding revealed that teachers agreed that assistive technology devices were necessary and useful in permitting student with special need optimizing learning and producing success possibilities for children with special needs in the classroom.

Findings reveals that assistive technology device do not replace human function and aids in functional in the capabilities of the children with special needs.
