ABSTRACT
This study, anchored on the tenets of the conflict and social learning theories investigated the role of broadcast stations in the campaign against child abuse in Benin City, Edo State. The study became necessary following the rampant cases of child abuse in the Benin City in spite of the role of broadcast stations in the campaign against child abuse. Hence, it became imperative to empirically ascertain the extent of the role of broadcast stations in the Campaign against Child Abuse in Edo State. Using the survey design, a ten-item questionnaire was employed to elicit data from the 400 residents of Benin City who were selected through purposive and the systematic sampling techniques to represent and reflect opinions of Broadcast Stations in Benin City; Edo State, Nigeria Data obtained were presented and analyzed with the aid of frequency Tables and simple percentages. It was found out that, the extent to which broadcast stations perform their roles in the campaign against child abuse is to a very low extent. However, findings indicated that the broadcast stations use various tools that aid their campaign against child abuse. The study concluded that the role of the broadcast stations in the campaign against child abuse cannot be underestimated and should therefore be utilized in the fight against child abuse. Hence, it was recommended that broadcast stations should wake up to their responsibilities and expedite efforts in the campaign against child abuse.
