ABSTRACT
The study focuses on the role of radio in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria. Due to the uncontrollable insurgencies since the last two decades there is a need to identify the causes of terrorism and to know the effectiveness of the media in countering it, and also to determine Radio listeners perception to terrorism reports and to suggest possible strategies that it can adopt to contain the issues of terrorism in Nigeria. The study adopts the survey method working with a sample size of 400 out of the total population. Based on the findings, people believe in the power of the radio medium of communication to curb terrorism. In addition to that,the mass audience encourage the media to continue the reportage on terrorism, by using which includes, encouraging traditional and religious institutions to carry out their function effectively and speak against it, they should also constantly downplay the activities of these terrorists, suggesting to the government measures that could be taken to curb the menace. The media is the watch dog in the society and should act as such by working in synergy with each other in the fight against the common enemy which is terrorism. Media houses should be objective, accurate and should do thorough investigations on terrorism reports before they are aired to the public.
