ABSTRACT

This project delves into the crucial role of film as a medium for combating child abuse, focusing on the perspectives portrayed in the movies "Dry" and "October 1st." It aims to educate and enlighten the people on child abuse as well and also draw the attention of filmmakers to the fact that there are only a few amount of films that helps to educate the people on child abuse, by analyzing the narrative strategies, character development. Through a comparative analysis of the two films, this project aims to shed light on the potential of cinematic storytelling to create a lasting impact on societal perceptions and attitudes towards child abuse. The findings of this research can provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of using film as a tool for social change and awareness in addressing such critical issues. This study was able to analyze the films used as a perspective to highlight child abuse, “Dry” and “October 1st” which highlighted child abuse for both genders respectively. “Dry” highlighted the Child abuse on girl child while “October 1st” explored male child abuse. This study made findings and came to a conclusion that filmmakers and the movie industry needs to do better in producing more films to enlighten people because movies in the 21st century are now used as a mode of teaching and it gets to more people faster. The study aims to bring to limelight the shortcomings of the film industry and film makers.
