ABSTRACTThe conclusion of the study on English language proficiency and cross-cultural communication in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area offers a comprehensive reflection on the key findings and their implications. The research has provided valuable insights into the current state of English language proficiency, language barriers in crosscultural communication, and the role of English proficiency in fostering effective interactions in this diverse community. First and foremost, the study underscores the importance of language as a central element in the dynamics of cross-cultural communication. It is clear that language proficiency, particularly in English, plays a pivotal role in bridging cultural divides and enabling effective communication among diverse individuals. The findings emphasize that English language proficiency, whether at the proficient or highly proficient level, enhances individuals' ability to listen, adapt to cultural preferences, and actively participate in community events and collaborations with people from different cultures. Language proficiency is, therefore, a critical enabler of intercultural understanding and relationship-building in this community. However, the research also sheds light on the challenges and barriers that individuals in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area face when engaging in crosscultural communication. These barriers include grammatical differences, anxiety and selfconsciousness, limited exposure to English media and cross-cultural interactions, and varied communication styles. These challenges are not insurmountable but require focused attention and strategies to address. Recognizing the presence of these barriers is the first step towards fostering a more inclusive and intercultural community. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for comprehensive and multifaceted interventions to enhance English language proficiency and cross-cultural communication.
