ABSTRACT

This study investigates the role of adult education in the eradication of child labour in Ikpoba Okha Local government area. Six (6) research questions were raised to guide the study.

A total of two hundred and twenty five (225) adults in ten communities in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State constituted the sample for the study selected for the study through simple sampling technique. The major instrument used for this study was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages

Findings of the study revealed that child labour in Ikpoba local government area is very prevalent. It was also revealed that the causes of child labour in Ikpoba Okha local government area are poverty, means of occupying children, means of apprenticeship and ignorance. It was further recommended that Efforts should be made by Non-governmental Organizations to help reduce child labour in Ikpoba local government area and in the country. It was further recommended that Government and Non-governmental organisations should provide programmes that will enhance the living conditions of the people.
