ABSTRACT
Passage rites are the rituals/ceremonies observed during the four transitional points in man’s life, which marks the end of a particular phase of life and the beginning of another. It encompasses spiritual, social, psychological, and physiological dimensions. These rites provide a roadmap for individuals to navigate the complex web of roles, responsibilities, and identities that evolve throughout their lives. It does not have a founder neither can its origin be traced, however it is believed to be passed down to us by our fore fathers. It shows the rich cultural heritage of the people, with heavy religious undertone. 69 These rites are not merely social ceremonies but also bridges to the metaphysical realm. Ancestral spirits, deities, and cosmic forces are often invoked to bless and guide the individual through these transitions. The interaction between the seen and the unseen worlds is fundamental, with rituals acting as a conduit between the two. It shows the idea of God, the belief in ancestors and the hereafter, and promotes worthwhile living. It serves as an avenue for uniting all the members of the family, both the living, the dead, and yet unborn members.
