ABSTRACT

This study investigates the impact of risk management on the financial performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. It aims to assess the influence of risk management, examine the relationship between risk management and financial performance, and determine the impact of operational risk management on Nigerian SMEs.

Methodologically, we employ a comprehensive blend of descriptive and inferential statistical methods to rigorously analyze the dataset. Descriptive statistics provide a foundational understanding of the variables within the questionnaire, enhancing the accessibility and comprehensibility of subsequent analyses. The analytical toolkit includes essential techniques such as multiple regression, percentages, and means, all facilitated through the utilization of SPSS.

The central findings of this study underscore the pivotal role played by risk management in enhancing the financial performance of SMEs. We substantiate this by revealing a significant positive correlation between effective risk management practices and the financial success of SMEs. Furthermore, our analysis highlights the substantial influence of operational risk management on the financial performance of Nigerian SMEs, emphasizing its significance in daily operations.

The implications of this study benefit multiple stakeholders. SME owners can make more informed decisions about risk management methods. Financial professionals, especially those analyzing insurance products, can refine their risk assessment practices. Policymakers and government agencies can use these findings to promote SME growth and foster economic development. Moreover, this research enhances existing knowledge and sets the stage for future research in this field.
