ABSTRACT

Water flooding is an important entity in the oil field, therefore the research is designed to make an overview of water flooding design for oil reservoir in order to monitor the impact of water flooding on reservoir performance and consequently the efficiency of different types of water flooding patterns to specify the best efficient pattern for an oil reservoir. Waterflooding is a more conventional EOR technique that involves the injection of water into a reservoir to maintain reservoir pressure and displace oil. This review assesses the key factors affecting the success of waterflooding, such as injection rates, fluid properties, well configuration, and reservoir characteristics. It also discusses the challenges associated with waterflooding, such as reservoir heterogeneity, mobility ratio, and the potential for reservoir damage due to water-rock interactions. Dumpflooding involves the rapid injection of large volumes of water or other fluids into a reservoir to displace oil and improve sweep efficiency. This technique aims to create a frontal displacement that pushes the oil towards production wells, facilitating increased oil recovery rates. The review examines various aspects of dumpflooding, including injection rates, fluid types, reservoir heterogeneity, and their impacts on oil recovery. Furthermore, this review explores the synergistic effects of combining dumpflooding and waterflooding techniques to enhance oil recovery. It examines the advantages and limitations of integrated strategies, including alternating water and dumpflooding, cyclic water and dumpflooding, and simultaneous dumpflooding and waterflooding.
