ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to access the review and analysis of waste management practice in Oredo Local government Area. The study was guided by four research questions, responses were elicited from the respondents using a validated and reliable questionnaire for data collection.
A descriptive cross-sectional research design was adopted for this study, the population covers the dwellers in the Oredo L.G.A. The sample size of 100 respondents was used for the study and data were analyzed, tabulated, interpreted and then discussed. Percentage and frequency were adopted as a method of data analysis. Based on the data analyzed, the findings of the study therefore clearly reveals that respondents in Oredo Local Government area have a good knowledge of waste management but they have a poor level of practice measures and has resulted to use of unethical methods to achieve disposal of waste such as illegal waste dumping in authorized places. Business population in the community have a greater impact on proper waste bins which contributes to sewage issues.
In view of these findings, the researchers recommend below; provision of adequate public waste bins by the appropriate waste management body in Edo State. Waste bins should be provided particularly for the community to avoid dumping of waste in authorized places, provision of separate waste bins for different categories of sewage in order to promote waste separation. Authorities should strive to minimize the improper primary waste disposal practices affecting the natural environment and the benefits from practicing proper waste management.
