ABSTRACT

Chronic Alcohol consumption is linked to renal damage. As the quest for potential nephroprotective agents from natural sources continues, the Allium Cepa Linn (onion) has emerged as a promising candidate due to its rich phytochemical profile. This research aimed to assess the therapeutic potential of onion in reversing histological alterations in the kidneys of albino rats subjected to alcohol-induced damage. Albino rats were segregated into control, alcohol-induced, and onion treatment groups. The alcohol-induced group was subjected to a specific regimen of alcohol intake to induce kidney damage, after which the treatment group received the onion crude decoction. Kidneys were then extracted for histopathological analysis to examine the tissue’s cellular structure. Histological evaluations revealed noticeable degerative changes in the renal tubules and glomeruli in the alcohol-induced group. However, rats treated with the onion decoction showcased significant recuperation in the renal architecture with fewer signs of tubular necrosis, glomerular shrinkage, and intestinal inflammation.
