REVENUE GENERATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

ABSTRACT

The study revenue generation and the development of Egor local government area of Edo State. Local government plays a crucial role in the delivery of services to the citizenry, the success of any local government is its ability to utilize its human and material resources to achieve the desired objectives are sought and critically reviewed. Descriptive survey research design was utilized in the research with questionnaires as the method of data collection. The sample size for this study is three hundred and thirty-nine thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine (339,899) drawn purposively from the population. A Sample size of four hundred (400) questionnaires was drawn randomly from the population. Based on the findings, the study therefore made the following conclusion that revenue generation by local government in Nigeria have affected the spread of development to all the nooks and crannies of the country. A conscious effect should be made to enhance the effectiveness of revenue officers of the local government revenue committee. For a better revenue generation, adequate machinery should be put in place and strengthened. The level of the deterrent punishment should also be made stricter and there should be continuous education for the citizens on the importance of paying taxes and levies to the appropriate body. Local government areas on their own part should make good use of the finances at their disposal to better the areas in which they operate. When government does her part the citizens will not default in the payment of tax which at the end will affect the overall revenue generation system.
