ABSTRACT

This project research was born out of the careful observations through engaging the need assessment as regarding ceramics studio practice. The study seeks ways to reduce the insufficiency of throwing wheels as relative to the number of students in the studio. Also serving as a substitute to electric wheel in absence of electricity or short time power failure.

This research provides a restored kick wheel derived from an old broken treadle wheel which has been in the studio over a long period of time. The wheel was said to have been the first manual kick wheel brought to the ceramics unit for the purpose of teaching in the early 70s therefore it has been in existence for the past 40years.

This research shows the possibility of finishing a manual wheel which does not depend on electricity to function. To achieve this, ancillary assistance was sourced from local technicians who drilled and bolted the metal components together from a critical study of its former state.
