ABSTRACT

This study examines the perception and attitude of residents towards urban beautification. This research was embarked on to examine factors affecting against urban beautification in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City.

This research was conducted using the questionnaire and personal observation. A total of 400 questionnaires were administered but a total of 388 questionnaires were returned valid and the data was fed into Microsoft excel. Using the frequency table, bar and pie charts, it was found out that the citizens of Oredo are more populated with educated people and should be able to understand beautification but since it was observed that the people of Oredo come to live there because of business matters and not the beautification of the place. They even make the area more unattractive by littering the place with food wrappers.

This research is important to raise the consciousness o the people on the factors on beautification and the benefits of beautifying their environment.
