ABSTRACT
Chlorophenol and substituted 2-chiorophenol are toxic organic pollutant commonly present in industrial waste streams especially from oil refineries, coal conversion plants, petrochemicals, polymers resins, coal tar distillation, pharmaceuticals. Cellulose was extracted from rice husk by various procedure; sample preparation, delignification, bleaching. lml of chlorophenol was added to 1 litre of water to prepare 2SOppm of the aqueous chlorophenol in a volumetric flask, In typical determination sample of each 2 chlorophenol concentration 25Opprn was mixed with 0.2g weigh of the modified cellulose, the mixture were: thoroughly agitated on a mechanical orbital shaker at 150 rotations per minute, The varying conditions were evaluated In the batch experiments. The mixtures were filtered and residual 2 chlorophenol concentration in the solution were determined using Uā! spectrophotometer. In the effect of time on the removal of 2- chlorophenol, there was a step increase in the adsorption at the initial stages of the reaction. The effect of concentration on the uptake increased with increasing initial metal concentration to a limiting value at initial concentration between 50 ā 2500mg!L. The effect of pH adsorption decreases with increase in pH. The result obtained showed that experimental fit well into the Freundich isotherm with correlation coefficient (P3) 0.95 10.
