ABSTRACT
This essay is to examine the theme of religious hypocrisy in Law Ikay Eze’s Your Church My Shrine and Mongo Beti’s The Poor Christ of Bomba. The study will explore how the two novels expose the ways in which religious leaders and institutions can use religion to exploit and oppress people.

Drawing from the theme of unethical practices and religious deception this study examines the ways in which individuals, institutions, and societies struggle with the disharmony between professed religious values and actual behaviours through the lens of Sociological theory used in analysing the novels.
