ABSTRACT

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999(CFRN) being the grundnorm of the country, has within its provisions established the right to freedom of religion. This provision which is reiterated actively and implicitly in section 38 of the CFRN which Provides that;

Every person shall be entitled to the freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship. teaching, practice and observance.

The above section is to the effect that every citizen is guaranteed the freedom of religious worship, including the freedom to change from one religion to the other as he/she deems fit. However, there seems to be an issue as to whether the same Constitution that proscribes for the adoption of any form of religion has in another section, fostered the course of one religion or some religions over the others.
