ABSTRACT
This study examines the evolving relationship between religion and technology, with a particular focus on how social media impacts Christian religious practices among students of the University of Benin. A mixed-methods approach employing content analysis, case studies, and qualitative research was utilized to investigate the influence of social media on religious beliefs and practices. The research gathered data on the frequency of social media use among various religious affiliations, their engagement with Christian religious content online, and the subsequent effects on their beliefs and practices. Additionally, content analysis was employed to analyze Christian religious content on social media platforms, aiming to understand the themes, discussions, and trends shaping online religious discourse. The findings reveal both advantages and disadvantages associated with the influence of social media on Christian religious practices. Consequently, the research recommends critical evaluation of religious content encountered on social media, a balanced approach to religious engagement that integrates both online and offline practices, and the promotion of positive social media influence. These recommendations are supported by the research, which acknowledges the potential of social media as a platform for believers to express their religious beliefs.
