ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to investigate the Relevance of Religion Study to National Development in Oredo local government area of Edo State. A descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. Three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study. The target population of the study hundred and twenty thousand five hundred and two (120,502) in twenty (20) secondary schools in Oredo local government area in Edo state were randomly sampled from the population. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Educational Foundation; while the test- re test reliability method was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The study reveals that learning about different religions fosters understanding, respect, and acceptance of diverse backgrounds, promoting social cohesion and reducing prejudice. Integrating religion studies into national development strategies can address social issues, shape cultural identity, and foster moral values. Strategies for promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation are proposed to overcome these challenges and build a more inclusive and tolerant society, aligning with the goal of national development .Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made for the study: Government should develop and enforce policies that promote religious tolerance, non-discrimination, and inclusivity in educational institutions and society at large. Teachers should create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable discussing and exploring religious topics. Curriculum Developers should ensure that religious education content is age-appropriate, accurate, and balanced, avoiding stereotypes or biases. Religious Leaders should act as advocates for peace, tolerance, and interfaith cooperation within their communities and beyond, they should also engage in dialogue with leaders of other religious faiths to promote understanding, mutual respect, and collaboration on common issues.
