ABSTRACT

The study attempts to investigate the syntactic phenomena of relativization in Yoruba. The study analyses the process and how it manifests in Yoruba. The study is divided into five chapters; Chapter one, is concerned with the introduction, that is background, to study, research methodology involved the collection of data through oral interview with ten (10) native speakers of the language of study. It was believe that these speakers were old enough to speak the language minimum interference. It also gives information on lexical items in the language and the significance of the study. Chapter two, focuses in the literature review, where some concepts were explained forming the conceptual review. The chapter also focuses on previous studies and the concern of the current study. Chapter three was centered on the theoretical framework of the investigation and the clearance of the study to the study. Chapter four, presented and analyzed data from Yoruba language where it was observed and discovered that the only relative marker in Yoruba is ‘‘ti’’, which can be in agreement with the head noun. Chapter five, deals with the summary finding and conclusion of the study. Relativization in Yoruba is marked by a relative particle ‘‘ti’’.
