ABSTRACT
In African cosmology, the connection between the Supreme Being and deities follows a hierarchical structure. The Supreme Being, often known as Nyame, Olodumare or Ngai, is perceived as the ultimate creator and the source of power. Deities, such as Orisha, Ancestors or Loas, serve as intermediaries, whose distinct role, is bridging the gap between humans and the divine. Ancestral veneration is vital as deceased ancestors become deities, connecting the living to the divine. Cultural diversity leads to diverse deity roles and names, showcasing African belief system’s adaptability. This relationship offers insights into the spiritual and philosophical foundations of African societies.
