ABSTRACT

This study investigated the relationship between teaching methods and students’ academic performance in public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. Data was collected from two hundred and fifty three (253) respondents selected from 4 public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using simple percentage and frequency count.

The findings from the study include that the most used teaching method in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State is student-centered method. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between teaching methods and students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. It was therefore recommended among others that Student-centered method of teaching should be used as a dominant teaching strategy in teaching in secondary schools so as to encourage better students’ academic performance.
