RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRINCIPALS LEADERSHIP STYLES AND JOB SATISFACTION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

ABSTRACT

The study investigate the principals' leadership styles and job satisfaction of teachers in oredo Local Government area of Edo State. Five research questions were raised, research question 1 and 2 were answered while research question 3 to 5 were hypothesizes and tested at 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. The target population of the study consist of two hundred and eighty eight (288) teachers from thirteen (13) public senior secondary schools in oredo local government area of Edo State, with sample of seventy eight (78) teachers from five (5) public senior secondary schools in oredo local government area of Edo state were drawn using simple random sampling procedure. A structured questionaire was used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested using Pearson product moment correlation and fishers Z test statistics. The study reveals that principals in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area use Democratic leadership styles. The level of job satisfaction of principals' in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area is high. Based on the findings of xii the study the following recommendations were made for the study; Democratic leadership styles should be encouraged among other principals outside Oredo Local Government Area so as to achieve their set of goals of the schools.To retain the high job satisfaction of teachers, it is recommended that incentives should be given to teachers to boost their morale;A Satisfied teacher is a happy and productive teacher.
