ABSTRACT

This study investigated the Relationship between principal leadership style and teacher job performance in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide the study four research questions were raised, one was answered directly, while a beach mark of 2.50 was set implying that any item with a mean score of 2.50 and above was considered accepted while any item with a mean score below 2.50 was considered rejected. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of seven hundred and seventy (770) teachers from the 30 public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state. a sample of a hundred (100) teachers from 5 public secondary schools was randomly selected for the study. The research instrument used to gather data for the study was a Questionnaire titled "Principal leadership style and teacher job performance (PLSTJP)". Data collected were analyzed using the frequency count and simple percentage. Hypotheses were tested using Pearson’s product moment correlation formula and the T-test. The findings revealed that the democratic leadership style of public secondary school principal in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State is dominant. The study also revealed that there was a significant relationship between principal leadership style and teacher job performance in secondary schools in Ovia North-East local government of Edo state. Findings from the study also revealed that there was a significant relationship between autocratic leadership style and low teachers job performance in secondary schools in Ovia North-East local government of Edo state.
