ABSTRACT

Background; Occupational stress is a rising major concern for both employees and employers. In relation to Job Performance, it is necessary to know the level of Occupational stress, this is because occupational stress has harmful consequences Aim; This research study was to determine the Relationship between Occupational Stress and Job Performance among Clinical Physiotherapists in Benin Hospitals. Methods: The cross-sectional study recruited 50 Clinical Physiotherapists from Hospitals in Benin City. Self –administered questionnaires using the Occupational Stress Index, Oldenburg burnout inventory and Brief COPE inventory were used to assess employees' stress in various dimensions of their job life, to gauge how severe their burnout is by taking a look at two things (Exhaustion and Disengagement) and to know how people respond to difficult or stressful events respectively. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS27.0). Data was summarized using descriptive statistics of frequency, percentages, mean, and standard deviation Results; It showed that 38(76.0%) suffered medium level of burnout while 12(24.0%) of the respondent suffered high level of burnout. It also revealed that 9(18.0%) of the respondents reported poor job performance, 27(54.0%) reported moderate level of job performance and 14(28.0) of the respondents reported high level of job performance. The result of the analysis showed that 30(60.0%) of the respondents adopted acceptance, 25(50.0%) adopted planning, 24(48.0%) adopted religion, 23(46.0%) adopted behavioral disengagement an also use of information support. The least coping strategies adopted by the respondents are substance use and self-blame. Conclusion; There is no relationship between Occupational Stress and Job Performance among Clinical Physiotherapists in Benin Hospitals.
