ABSTRACT

This study examines regulating and Standardizing Air Travel in Nigeria: NCAA as a State Actor in the International System, the study discussed the Concept and Regulation of Air Travel in Nigeria, the Origin of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and its partnership with other relevant agencies, the role of NCAA in the regulation and standardization of Air Travel in Nigeria, and the Challenges faced by Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority in the Air Travel Industry. The study revealed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) serves as a state actor in the international system by regulating and standardizing air travel within Nigeria. It plays a crucial role in ensuring safety, security, and efficiency in the country's aviation sector. This includes overseeing airlines, airports, and related services to meet international standards, thereby contributing to Nigeria's integration into the global aviation community. In view of the challenges confronting the Aviation industry in Nigeria, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) was created and became the regulatory body for aviation in Nigeria. The agency became autonomous with the passing into law of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 which was remodified in 2022. The study found that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has its corporate office on the grounds of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria and headquarters in Aviation House on the grounds of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.
