ABSTRACT
This project covers the study of comparism of recycled aggregate with natural aggregate. The project was carried out using recycled aggregates and the use of natural aggregate to determine the compressive strength of both recycled aggregates and natural aggregates. The physical properties, compressive strength was carried out on both the natural and recycled aggregate.
Various test was carried out during this project to get the recycled aggregate concrete in the environment. Sieve analysis was used for both natural and recycled aggregates using sieve size 14mm and 19mm respectively, the slump test was carried out on both recycled and natural aggregates to get the workability of concrete and the compressive test was carried out on the natural and recycled aggregate concrete.
After casting concrete samples were kept in wet place and demoulded at 24 hours they were submerged in open tank for curing up to 7, 14, and 28 days as required for test. The results of the Natural Recycled aggregate concrete at 7, 14, and 28 days increased in compressive strength. The recycled aggregate concrete at 7, 14, and 28 days did not meet the required compressive strength. The concrete compressive strength for normal construction work varies from 15Nmm2 to 30Nmm2. In conclusion the use of RCA should be limited to light weight construction, the purpose and use of a structure should be considered while replacing the NCA with RCA mostly for structures that are built in riverine areas. Admixtures such has strength enhancing concrete admixtures could be added to concrete to improve the strength of concrete with RCA. The water absorption rate in RCA the use of a mortar should be used for proper removal in the RCA samples. The result showed that the compressive strength with RCA was lower than NCA. At days of the results of 7, 14, and 28 days for the recycled concrete varied in compressive strength which were not the same of the Natural Aggregate Concrete.
